When using a power wheelchair and you want to play a sport, Power Chair Football is for you. Power Chair Football is the most popular sport for power wheelchair users around the world.
The sport was created in France during the late 70’s. With steady growth, it’s played in over 25 countries, with more joining each and every year.
Power Football is played on a basketball court with four players per team, a goalkeeper and three attackers/defenders. Each player is equipped with a metal or sturdy plastic foot guard attached to the front of the chair, athletes move the chairs and use the foot guard to pass and shoot the ball.

Today WelcoMe launches with its first NHS Hospital NHS Golden Jubilee, Glasgow. The Golden Jubilee becomes the fist health board in the world to offer WelcoMe to its disabled patients and visitors underlining its long held aspiration to be the very best person centric health care provider.
Golden Jubilee’s Equality and Inclusion Lead Robert White said: “Patients have always been at the heart of everything we do here at NHS Golden Jubilee, and we are delighted to be continuing this exciting collaboration with the team at WelcoMe.
“As a Disability Confident Leader, making sure we are offering the highest quality of care and experience for those who need our services has always been a priority for us, and this project is the latest step in our dedication to creating an accessible space for everyone who comes through our doors.”
At WelcoMe, we are obviously over the moon with this opportunity and hope that success with The Golden Jubilee can lead to WelcoMe being made avaibale at an increasing number of hospitals and Health Centres across the United Kingdom.
It’s hard to assess at this time just exactly what impact we can make in health care but we are very aware that as the only service provider of this type that the opportunity is truly massive.

Have you ever wanted to try wheelchair basketball? If so, Scottish woman warriors are running an open day.
🏀 Saturday 27th of April from 1-3 pm. St Thomas Aquinas Secondary, Glasgow.
Wheelchair basketball is an inclusive sport so any women over the age of 16 are welcome. Just turn up with something to drink and loose fitting clothes.
